Chapter Six
Nicholai looked in the direction the voice was coming from. “Yes, I can hear you. Who are you, how do you know my name?” Nicholai replied. “It is Niklaus, Wilfred's brother.” The voice said. “What is going on? Everything is blurry. I was fine until I stood up from looking at a purple rose.” There was a deep breath from Niklaus. “Did you touch the rose?” “No, I did not, the thorns looked very sharp.”
Niklaus walked away towards what looked to Nicholai like a cupboard on the wall. Nicholai started to blink over and over quickly, hoping he could focus his eyes. It was not working. “Why won't my eyes become clear?” Nicholao cried. Rubbing his eyes to dry the tears. “Do not rub your eyes, it will make it worse. This is happening because of the rose. It emits a clear and odorless gas that affects your senses.”
He handed Nicholai a cloth. “If you wipe your eyes with this your eyesight should clear up and you will be able to see clearly again. It will also clear up anything else the rose has done.” Nicholai was skeptical about the cloth. But he took it anyway hoping it would work without any allergic reactions.
He wiped his eyes but kept them closed until they dried. When he opened them he could see clearly. Niklaus stood in front of him. There was another person next to him, Nicholai did not recognise this person. “Who are you?” He asked. “I am Shane, Niklaus asked me for help as I was walking past on my way home.”
Nicholai stood up and went to walk towards the door. “Where are you going?” Asked Niklaus. “I was heading towards the inn, I have to check if some people are still there, I need to catch up with them.” With this he started walking again. When he reached the door he turned back and thanked the men for their help.
He made his way to the inn. He heard the guys talking and laughing. This made him smile knowing they were still here and they sounded healthy and happy.
He ran through the door of the inn. Straight to the desk where the man who ran it was standing. “What room are Michael and Jonathan in?” He asked. “Hello, I am John. The owner of this inn, I will have to phone up and ask them if it is okay for me to give their room numbers out.”
Wilfred's house. He lifted the knocker and gently placed it down so as not to knock too hard in case the smaller children were already in bed. Emilie opened the door.
Emilie just stood staring at Nicholai, she was not expecting him back so soon. “Wilfred, could you come here please?” She said just about loud enough to be heard. Wilfred came to the door, he looked out at Nicholai. He went to close the door but Nicholai put his hand in the way and grabbed the door to stop it shutting.
“Sorry to disturb you so late, and for how I just left without warning, but is there any chance I could spend another night here with you?” enquired Nicholai. “Yes, I'm sure Wilfred and the children will be happy you have returned, why don't you come in?.” Emilie replied. Nicholai walked in and Luca ran up to him, “I thought you had gone without saying goodbye, you left why we were at school.”
Nicholai looked at Wilfred, he was unsure of what to say as he had not told them why he was back yet. “We weren’t expecting you back so soon, Nicholai,” said Wilfred. “Yeah, I did not think I would be back so soon. I will explain later when the little ones are in bed.” Nicholai responded. Emilie entered the room, grabbed Luca and said “Well it's bath time for you little man.” then took him to the bathroom.
Abigail looked at Nicholai bewildered and confused. Like she did not know him. “Hey, Abigail, how are you?” asked Nicholai. “Hi, who are you?” queeried Abigail. “Wilfred, Abigail does not remember me, is something wrong?” Nicholai said as he turned to Wilfred. “Yeah, she has memory issues, once she realises she will know who you are again. It doesn’t usually take too long.”
Wilfred walked out of the room and went into the kitchen to make a drink for himself, Nicholai and Emilie. He returned to the lounge and sat down. “Wow, today has been so hectic, just non-stop.!” exclaimed Wilfred through a long deep breath. “If you need to talk about anything then I am here for you.” “Thank you, that is a lovely thing to offer.” Replied Wilfred.
Abigail came running back into the room, “Nicholai, Nicholai, look at my new toy that I got from my friend at school.” “Oh. Now this looks like a really cool toy, what was it for?” “It is for being such a good friend, that's what Grayson said anyway.” replied Abigail. “Well, that was very nice of Grayson, is he a good friend to you as well?” Asked Nicholai. “Oh, yes the very best, we've been in the same class since nursery.” Abigail said excitedly.
Wilfred walked into the room, turned to Abigail and told her it was bath and bedtime. Abigail skipped off towards the stairs to go up and get her bath ready for school the next day. From the top of the stairs Abigail shouted “Mum, could you come up here please? I need your help.” With this Emilie rushed off to see what Abigail needed help with.
“I see what you mean by it won’t take long for her memory of me to come back, do they know what causes that to happen. If you don’t mind me asking.” Enquired Nicholai. “Well, actually nobody knows. She has seen five specialists, she has had a number of tests done and they cannot figure out why it happens.” Explained Wilfred. “Oh, it’s strange that tests have shown no reasons for her memory issues.” Said Nicholai.
Emilie walked into the room, she walked towards Wilfred and whispered into his ear but Nicholai did not quite hear what was said. After this she walked towards Nicholai said goodnight and went off to bed.
“Well, Emilie is not happy about us discussing Abigail's memory issues, it’s not just you so don’t worry she just doesn't like it being talked about. Likes to keep it within the family and professionals.” Wilfred said, looking at the floor. “Oh, well that’s understandable and I will not mention it again.” Nicholai told Wilfred.
Wilfred got up, he went out of the room and came back in with the sheets for Nicholai. “I am going to check on the children and go to bed, goodnight Nicholai.” With that he walked out of the room not even giving him a chance to reply.
Nicholai lay on the couch, staring at the ceiling, wondering what tomorrow will bring. Will he make it to the next place this time? As much as he łiked Wilfred and his family he was curious what the next place is called and what it is like.
Just as he started to doze off there was an almighty thud on the ceiling. He shot up, looked around curious as to what was going on, where the thud had come from. Emilie came running down the stairs, “Nicholai, please come quickly it's Wilfred, something happened.”
Nicholai and Emilie ran back upstairs. Wilfred lay on the floor, face down and shaking. Nicholai tried to roll him onto his side but it was difficult, Wilfred's body seemed stiff as it was shaking. “Ring the emergency services Emilie, Wilfred needs medical aid.” Nicholai suggested.
Emilie ran out of the room, down the hall and down the stairs and grabbed the phone. He could hear her downstairs panicking on the phone. “I, it’s my husband, there is something wrong, he is stiff but shaking. We can't stop the shaking. He won't respond to his name.”
Luca had woken up due to the noise of the stairs, he stood at the door of his parents bedroom crying, holding a blanket to his mouth. “Why is daddy moving weird?” He asked between checks. “Luca, you need to go back to your bed, it’s very late.” A voice came from behind him, he spun round fast, it was Elijah.
He picked Luca up and took him into his own room. “Why are we going into your room Elijah?” Asked Luca. “To make sure you do not go back to mum and dads room. I’m unsure what is happening but I would rather you be in my room where I can keep an eye on you.” Elijah responded.
Emilie came back up the stairs and walked into her room, Wifred had stopped shaking now, Nicholai had managed to roll him onto his side. “Could you please go down and wait for the emergency services to arrive please Nicholai?” She requested. “Yes of course Emilie.” Then he got up and walked out of the room.
As he got to the bottom of the stairs there was a knock at the door, it was the paramedics. He led them up the stairs to where Wilfred and Emilie were. “Hello Mrs Anderson, what has happened?” “It’s my husband Wilfred, he rolled over, fell out of bed and must have banged his head really hard as he started shaking violently.” “Well, we will need to check him over for any visible injuries he may have caused during his fall, please could you make room.” With this Emilie sat on the bed out of the way.
The paramedics looked over Wilfred carefully, they noticed a big gash in his head, blood pouring from it. “Did any of you notice this before?” then enquired. “No, I did not.” Replied Emilie. “But our guest Nicholai has spent more time with him and rolled Wilfred onto his side, he was face down.” She continued. “I did notice some blood on the carpet as I rolled him over but it did not look like much, then Emilie came before I looked over him and I went downstairs to meet you.” “Well, we need to get him to the hospital as soon as we can, Paul can you go get the stretcher from the ambulance please? We will need it to transport him to the ambulance.” Paul ran straight off and down the stairs.
When he returned he had what looked like a thin portable bed. They lay Wilfred on it on his back, strapped down with a brace around his head. Once he was secure they manoeuvred him down the stairs slowly and safely. When they got to the bottom step they pulled wheels down so they could push him out to the ambulance.
Nicholai looked for Emilie, he found her on the phone to Niklaus asking him to come and help Nicholai with the children as they had school in the morning. “Will you be okay until he gets here?” “Yes, now you go so they can get him patched up.” With this Emilie ran out of the house and jumped into the back of the ambulance.
Nicholai shut the door, he turned round and all the children were standing at the top of the stairs. He looked at Elijah. “Come on you three, we need to get back into bed.” Said Elijah. “But I want Mummy.” cried Luca. “Mummy has had to go out Luca, how about I put you in bed.” Katarina said, shocking everyone.
They walked into Luca’s bedroom, Elijah followed behind them. Katarina was getting Luca settled and tucking him in why singing the song their mum sings when putting them to bed.
‘Hush now, little one, the stars are bright
The moon whispers softly, a silver glow
Owls sing their lullabies in the night
Close your eyes gently, let sweet dreams flow
The world is at peace, wrapped in twilight's
embrace Clouds drift like whispers, soft and slow
Twinkling above, the sleepy stars trace
A blanket of calm, where the night breezes blow
So snuggle in tight, let the night take you home
With shadows that dance in the cool evening air
The moon will keep watch as you drift and you roam
Through fields of sweet dreams, without any care
Rest now, dear child, let the world fade away For morning will come with its warm, golden light But for now, just listen to what the night says, As owls serenade you until morning's sight.’
By the time she had finished Luca was asleep, she looked at Elijah who was still standing next to the door. She put her head on the pillow and fell asleep next to her little brother. They looked so sweet. Elijah went to check on Abigail, she was curled up in his bed. He just left her there and lay next to her singing the song Katarina just sang to Luca.
He was only half way when she fell asleep. He got out of his bed and went down to talk to Nicholai. “Erm, Nicholai, do you know what is wrong with our dad?” Asked Elijah. “I’m afraid not Elijah, all I know is he needed to go to the hospital for some tests.” Replied Nicholai.
“I’m sorry I cannot be of much help to rest your mind as I’m sure you may be thinking over everything to do with your dad and what could be happening to him.” He continued. “Yes, I am scared that he will not be allowed home.” Said Elijah in a tone that sounded shaky, almost like he was about to cry.
Nicholai stood up and walked towards Elijah, “I know you don’t know me very well but if you need me I am here.” He said, with this Elijah threw his arms around Nicholai’s neck and started sobbing on his shoulder. The door knocked, Elijah ran off upstairs and into his room.
Nicholai opened the door, it was Niklaus. “How are the kids?” He asked. “They are in bed, the three younger ones are asleep but Elijah is awake, he will need you he’s so upset, worried and scared.” Replied Nicholai. With this Niklaus ran upstairs as quickly and quietly as he could so he could get to Elijah without waking the other three.
Whilst Elijah and Niklaus talked upstairs the phone rang, Nicholai answered it, “Hello, Wilfred and Emilie's house Nicholai speaking.” “Hello Nicholai, it's Emilie just phoning with an update. Wilfred is okay, they say it was a seizure. The blood was because he bit his tongue and the inside of his cheeks really badly. They are doing some tests to try and figure out what caused them. He has never had one in his life.”
“It’s good that he’s okay, Elijah has been worried they would not let him home.” Nicholai informed Emilie. “Oh, he will be coming home just unsure of when, it all depends on the results of the tests.” “Okay, would you like me to let Elijah know so he might be able to sleep and his mind will race less?” “Yes please Nicholai, thank you for all you are doing.” Emilie hung up before Nicholai could reply.
Nicholai put the receiver back on the dock and walked upstairs. He stopped outside of Elijah’s room, he could hear them talking inside and did not want to disturb them. As he turned away to go back downstairs the door opened. It was Niklaus. “I thought I heard somebody out here.” “Yes, I have news from Emilie about Wilfred.” Nicholai said.
Elijah came to the door and asked “What is the news please Nicholai.” “Well, your dad is okay, he just needs some tests to figure out what caused the seizure. This is what they say at the hospital. He will be able to come when all the results are back and he is well enough.” explained Nicholai.
Eliah fell to the floor in relief. “We should leave the younger ones to sleep and update them in the morning about him being okay and that he will be home.” suggested Niklaus. Everyone else was in agreement. “I am going to try and sleep now for school in the morning. It is very late.” He got up and went into his room, closing the door behind him.
Nicholai and Niklaus went downstairs. “Would you like a drink?” Asked Niklaus. “I am okay, thank-you.” He replied. Niklaus walked off in the direction of the kitchen. After a while Nicholai got up to go see where he was and what was taking so long. He found Niklaus slumped on the table leaning on his arms, face buried. There was a low snore. ‘I can't leave him here, he will get a sore neck.’ Thought Nicholai. He tapped him on the shoulder “Niklaus, would you like to go lie on the couch? I am not tired yet so you are welcome to go there so you don’t get a sore neck.” Niklaus woke up and said thank-you. He then got up and went to lay on the couch.
Nicholai went around checking on everyone, they were all sound asleep. He went into Wilfred and Emilie's bedroom, looked on the floor where Wilfred was lay before he was transported to the hospital.. He noticed the patch of blood had dried, he went down and grabbed the cleaning stuff from under the sink.
He made his way back up the stairs and to where the blood was. He looked at the bottle to read the instructions but it was in the local dialect. He had no idea what to do with it but didn’t want to wake anyone as they had school and work the next day.
He took a chance, put some gloves on then sprayed it onto the cloth hoping it would lower the chances of ruining the carpet. He got down on his hands and knees to start scrubbing when Emilie walked into the room. “Nicholia, please do not do that, the cleaner you have is not for carpets.”
He jumped up and looked around shocked, “Oh, Emilie, when did you come home? I never heard you come in.” “I got home and came straight upstairs, good job I did or my carpet would be ruined.” Replied Emilie. “I am so sorry Emilie.” “It’s okay no damage was caused, thank-you for trying to help.” With that Emilie grabbed everything and went downstairs to get the correct cleaning items.
She entered the bedroom and started to clean the carpet. “Once again Emile, I am so sorry for not waiting and almost ruining your carpet. It was wrong of me.” Nicholai apologised with the deepest regret in his voice. She looked at him and said, “Nicholai, you do not need to apologise anymore, there was no damage caused.” With this she went back to scrubbing the floor.
Luca walked into the room. “Mother, when is father coming home?” Emilie stopped scrubbing the floor and walked to Luca, she picked him up and sat down on the bed with Luca in her arms. “He is sick, Luca, he needs to stay there until they think he is well enough to come home and at the moment they are unsure when that will be.”
With that Luca jumped down and ran out of the room. It sounded like he was crying. Elijah came in and asked what was wrong with Luca. Emilie explained and Elijah went back out to comfort Luca. Nicholai went downstairs.
He walked into the kitchen and put the kettle on. Why the kettle was boiling he got the stuff in the cup ready and the milk out of the fridge. He just stood staring out of the window. A dog walked past the house. It stopped midway and just stood looking back at Nicholai. They just stood looking at each other unaware of if anything else was happening.
Emilie walked into the room. “Nicholai, what are you doing?” She asked. “There is a dog outside just staring at me so I was just looking at it to see what it does.” She looked out the window. “Nicholai, there is no dog outside. There is nothing out there.” He turned his head to look at Emilie then looked back out of the window and it was gone. He looked puzzled and Emilie looked worried.
The phone started ringing in the hallway, Emilie turned and walked towards it. “Hello, Emilie speaking.” There were no other words, just a thud to the floor then crying. Nicholai ran out to the hall. Emilie was scrunched up crying, the phone hanging down. He picked up the phone, “hello, who is this?” He asked.
The other end was silent and hung up without saying anything. “Emilie, who was that?” She just looked at him through tears, unable to talk and just looked back down, resting her head on her knees. He knelt down by her side and put his arm around her shoulders.
Elijah came down, wondering what was going on. He looked at his mum and his head dropped. “Mum, is it dad?” He asked. Nicholai stood up and took him into the lounge. He explained about the phone call and her dropping to the floor but nobody said anything when he talked. Elijah knelt down and hugged his mum. He knew what was happening.
Emilie and Elijah stood up, they walked to the kitchen table together and just sat there facing each other, hand in hand across the table. Elijah would not stop watching his mum. She looked terrified. Her face shocked Nicholai, he had only seen her face like this when Wilfred became ill.
Her brows knit tightly, casting deep shadows over her eyes, a clear indication of her inner fear. She had a distant, unfocused look in her eyes, as if she were lost in anxious thoughts. Her lips trembled briefly before setting into a tight, tense line that betrayed her concern. She shifted her weight uneasily, her face betraying the silent concerns weighing on her mind. She was just sitting there, Nicholai was unsure of what to do.
Elijah let go of his mum's hand and walked to the door. He stopped in front of Nicholai and said “could you follow me please? I need to explain something.” With this he walked to the living room. Nicholai followed him and they both sat down on the sofa. Elijah just sat looking at the floor. He turned his head in Nicholai’s direction. Fear in his eyes.
He looked back away and started talking. “About a month ago we started getting calls, the person would only talk if there was a female on the phone. If myself or dad picked up they would just hang up. Mum always ends up like this after the phone calls, we are unsure of what is being said to scare her so much.” Nicholai turned to Elijah, “have any of you tried to sound female when answering just in case? Or asked someone else to answer?” Elijah looked at him shocked. “No, we did not think of that.”
The phone rang in the hallway, Elijah ran to answer. He picked up and spoke in his usual voice but on the other end was the hospital. “Hello, this is the doctor at the hospital, it’s about Wilfred. He is feeling much better and may be able to come home tomorrow. We will talk to your mum when she comes in.” He hung up and ran to his mum to tell her the news.
She shook her head surprised.”No, he can’t be ready yet, he was really bad when I was there earlier.” She was even more in shock now, "How could he recover so much in such a short time?”. She got up, told Elijah to go upstairs. He went up and into his room. Emilie went upstairs and checked on the children, all but Elijah were asleep. He was just sitting on his bed reading, “it is time for sleep now please Elijah, you have school in the morning.” With that she turned out his light and closed his door.
She went back downstairs to Nicholai and sat next to him on the couch. “Emilie, Elijah explained what was happening with the phone calls. I can try and help if you want?” She turned and looked at him. “I do not understand how you could help, they will only talk if it is my voice.” She replied. “Well, does your phone base have a speakerphone?” He asked. “Yes it does but we have tried to use it before, they seem to know every time and just say no speakerphone and hang up.”
Nicholai suggested his other ideas of another female or someone putting on a female voice to see if that works but Emilie explained they have also tried this. Nothing but only her talking gets the person to talk. Nicholai was stumped, he did not know what to do apart from going to the police. “We cannot go to the police, before you suggest that.” “Out of curiosity, how come?” He asked. “They said if I go to the police they will escalate things.”
Nicholai got up and walked out of the room, he went upstairs and turned right at the top. He went to the bathroom, when he got back downstairs Emilie was gone. The front door was closed so he went into the kitchen but the backdoor was wide open. What had happened, she was sitting on the couch when he went to use the bathroom?.
He looked into the yard and she stood there looking up at the sky, watching the clouds moving. She sat down while continuing to look at the sky. Nicholai walked up behind her. “Emilie, are you okay?” He asked. She slowly moved her head to look at him but moved her eyes towards the bushes as if she was trying to point something out. He looked through the corner of his eyes in the direction Emilie did and he could see a shadow. She looked back at the sky.
Nicholai stood up and turned towards the bushes. Emilie grabbed his hand and said “Nicholai, please do not move, it is not safe.” He stopped and turned back to her. “What do you mean?” She just looked at the floor. A voice came from the door, “what are you guys doing out here?” It was Katarina. “Mum, Nicholai, why are you guys out here? It is cold, the wind came under my door and woke me.” Nicholai walked to the house and ushered Katarina back in.
They went into the kitchen. “What is mum doing?” Katarina asked, a look of confusion on her face. “She is just looking at the clouds and stars, admiring the night sky.” Nicholai said, hoping to settle her thoughts and calm her down. Emilie walked in and locked the door behind her. She sat back at the table. “Katarina, go back to bed.” Was all she said for the rest of the night. Katarina went to say something but after looking at her mum's face she changed her mind and just went upstairs. Emilie followed her but went into her own room.
Nichlai was left downstairs on his own. He got the blankets and pillows he needed and lay down on the couch. He lay wondering what was going on, this was getting weirder and weirder as time went on. None of this happened before his attempt at leaving. Or was it happening but he was never told. There were so many thoughts running around his head.
He opened his eyes, it was morning. He must have dozed off at some point without realising. Emilie was in the kitchen making breakfast for the children before taking them to school. Nicholai walked in and offered to help hoping she would talk about what happened the night before. Emilie just carried on cooking and acting as if she hadn’t seen or heard him. He tapped her on the shoulder and made her jump. “Oh, I am sorry Emilie, I did not mean to make you jump. I have tried to talk to you already but you did not hear me.” She looked at him and signalled towards the same bushes. He could not see anything where she was signalling to. He was even more curious as to what was going on in this house. Maybe they needed to move.
The children all came down at the same time, clean, dressed and ready to go after breakfast. They all sat in their usual seats and Emilie served up their food. They all sat and ate in silence, they usually talked. Nicholai was so confused. Everything is so different today. The children just looked at their mum then went back to eating.
Once they were finished they all got up, wiped their faces and got their coats and bags on. They stood near the door, waiting for their mum to finish and be ready to leave. She was just sitting staring into the kitchen, she had barely touched her food. Elijah walked up to her, he tapped her shoulder gently and said “mum, are you okay? You have barely eaten and have not moved to get ready to take us to school.” She shook her head and turned to him. “Yes, I am fine, I will be there in a moment. I just need to wipe my face.” With that she got up and walked to the sink and Elijah went back to his siblings.
Emilie joined the children next to the door after wiping her face. She reached to the shoe rack to get her shoes and put them on. She went to walk out of the door without her coat. It was snowing out and very cold, Luca grabbed her coat and ran to her with it to get her to put it on so she wouldn’t be cold. After this they all left the house.
When they were gone Nicholai went into the yard and straight to the bush that Emilie kept gesturing towards. He looked around it carefully but there was no proof that anyone was ever here. What was going on with Emilie? She was adamant there was something going on there, like someone was there. Nicholai just stood looking at it.
Emilie walked into the house, she took off her coat, she walked into the kitchen and noticed Nicholai out in the yard. She watched him through the kitchen window to see what he was doing. She opened the door and shouted “Nicholai, I am back.” He turned around and walked into the kitchen. They both sat at the table.
They looked at each other, quietly, as if they were both contemplating what to say and where to start. Emilie looked at Nicholai, opened her mouth as if she was going to say something. She looked outside through the corner of her eyes and then just closed her mouth and looked down.
Nicholai got up and walked towards the door to the hallway. When his back was to Emilie he said, “Emilie, would you be more comfortable talking in the lounge away from the window to the yard?” She nodded slightly. He carried on walking, when he turned into the lounge she got up.
She walked straight past the lounge door and turned towards the stairs. She said “I will go upstairs, stay there for a little bit then come back down. It’s less suspicious than us both going in at the same time.” Nicholai replied, “okay, if that is what you think is best.” With this Emilie disappeared upstairs.
Nicholai looked out the window why Emilie was upstairs, when he heard her footsteps on the stairs he sat back down. She came in and sat next to him but did not look at him. “There is a man, he keeps phoning, he always seems to know who it is who answers the phone. It’s like he is watching the phone.” She explained. “What does he say when you pick up? I know he hangs up if it is anyone else.” She looked at Nicholai then to the window, she froze, just staring out at the house across the road. The look of fear on her face. Nicholai looked at the house, there was a man standing at the window, staring straight into the house. He got up and went to close the curtains. The phone rang.
Emilie went to pick up the phone, knowing who it was. Nicholai asked her not to pick up. “But it might be the hospital with news on Wilfred.” Okay let me stand by you so we can both hear the phone just in case it is the man. She picked up the phone and held it at an angle so they could both hear it. “Hello, this is Emilie.” A voice came down the phone. “This is the hospital, Wilfred is ready to go home if you could come and pick him up.” They were both shocked. “But he was still really bad yesterday, how could he have healed so quickly?”
The staff member said they would be right back and then Emilie heard the hold tone. “I am confused as to how he healed so fast.” Emilie said to Nicholai. “Yes, he's gone from critical to all healed in 24 hours. That seems too fast.” Nicholai said, confused. The hold tone vanished and a voice came on the phone. “Hello, this is Doctor Harper. The receptionist asked me to come to the phone, I was told you have questions for me.” “Oh, yes I do.” Emilie replied. Nicholai went back to the window why Emilie was on the phone. He looked at the house where the man was, he was gone. Not in any of the windows. He went into the kitchen and saw him in the bush, staring in through the kitchen to see what was going on.
When Emilie got off the phone she ran to Nicholai and asked if he could go to the hospital with her. He asked “who will keep an eye on the house?” That man is in the bushes in the yard again.” Emilie walked into the lounge and pressed a button. “This will record the whole house why we are out. Wilfred put it in when the calls started.” Nicholai said “I will also lock all the windows and doors on our way out.” With this they went around the house locking all windows. The back door was locked before they walked through the house and out the front door locking it behind them.
